One of the best ways to avoid dealing with bed bugs is to have a clear understanding of the most common ways people end up with them. Once you have an understanding of the ways they can get in your house, you will find you are in a much better position to prevent yourself from dealing with them in the future. Here are some of the ways you can end up with bed bugs in your house.

You move into a home that has them

Some people get bed bugs because they move into a home that already has them. This is one reason why it is so important for you to make sure that you pay very close attention to things when you are checking out a home you are thinking about moving into. Look for signs of different bugs, as well as the bed bugs themselves. Look in the cupboards, in the window sills, on the floor, on the curtains, near all sources of water, and anywhere else where bugs can hide.

You pick them up at a hotel

A very common way many people end up with bed bugs in their home is by bringing them home with them from a hotel while they are on vacation or out of town for other reasons. Always check the bedding, the floor, and the furniture in a hotel before you set your stuff down and decide to get comfortable. If you see tiny black specks that may be bed bugs, do not risk it; go to another hotel.

Someone brings them to your house

It's also a good idea to be careful who you decide to allow to stay the night at your home. If you notice a friend or family member has a lot of bites on them, then you may want to postpone that overnight visit because it is possible that all of those bites are being caused by bed bugs. This means they may bring them into your home on themselves and in their overnight luggage.

You bring them in on furniture or other items

If you are a person who likes to go to yard sales and estate sales, be careful bringing items into your home. Make sure you closely check anything with fabric. Many times, people bring bed bugs right into their home on used items that they have picked up from somewhere else.
