Termites can create major problems for any homeowner. They chew on rotting or moist wood, which can be found anywhere on your home, or around your home. This can be the beams, studs and major supports that are on your home. When this happens, it can cause other types of damage to your home, and if you aren't sure what you're looking for and have no idea of the damage going on behind on your walls, you could be in for a very rude awakening. Termites need to be spotted early so they can be exterminated properly before they cause too much damage to your home. Read on for information to help you spot and exterminate termites.

Spotting Termites

Determining if you have termites may not be that easy unless you're an expert on termites, so it's time to read up on termites and get familiar with this species of insect. They have a long winged or wingless body, and their wings are matching in pairs - they have two pairs of wings. They live in mud tunnels, similar to a mud dauber, but their tunnels are a little different and usually longer. You'll see these pests around the tunnels if you have them, and they are usually formed along your homes foundation or on exterior walls. You may also see signs of the termites, not just the termites themselves. Some signs include sawdust piles, dead insects, wings, or hollowed wood on your home. If you suspect you have termites, you need to get started right away getting rid of them.

Killing Termites

Killing and getting rid of termites isn't always an easy task. You need to do it properly when they are in their tunnels, or on your home, as trying to exterminate them when they are flying around is nearly impossible. You should spray pesticide in their tunnels, or in the wood in which they have begun to inhabit and eat through. Replacing the wood altogether may also be necessary in getting rid of the termites, but this doesn't kill them, it just sends them elsewhere to cause more damage. Setting off a bug bomb inside your home can be useful, as long as they are inside of your home and not outside. Calling a pest control expert is the best way to get rid of termites properly, as they have the know-how to do it right.

If you have termites, or suspect that you have termites, hire a professional to help you with termite control.
